Passo

Frequently asked questions

Passo is in development. Last updated 28 October 2026

Can I use Passo instead of my passport?

No. Passo is a travel journal. It does not replace a passport, a visa or any official document, and it is not valid at a border.

Is Passo on the App Store?

Not yet. Passo is in development. The App Store link will be added to this site at launch.

Which iPhones does Passo need?

Passo is designed for the iPhone Duo: the closed device is the cover and unfolding it opens a two-page spread. It is designed to run on other iPhones with iOS 18 or later, where it shows one page at a time with the same pages and stamps.

Where is my passport data stored?

Only on your device, encrypted with a key held in the iPhone Keychain, which needs a device passcode. There is no account and no Passo server that receives your passport details.

Does Passo stamp automatically?

It can suggest a stamp when it notices you arrived in a new country, but it always asks first. Nothing is stamped until you say yes. You can also add or delete stamps by hand.

Does Passo track my location?

Passo uses location only to suggest stamps. For each stamp you confirm it keeps only the country, the date and a rounded position. Automatic suggestions in the background are off unless you turn them on.

What do I share when I export a page, card or video?

Personal fields such as name, numbers and photo are hidden by default. Cards show countries and months unless you choose to show more. Exported files are deleted from the phone after sharing.

Will Passo read my passport chip?

That is the plan, using the phone's NFC reader, where your passport supports it. Chip reading is still being tested on real passports, and some passports may not work.

What will Passo cost?

The price is not decided. Passo has no ads and does not sell data.

Who makes Passo and how do I contact them?

Passo is made by Optional Labs LLP. Write to contact@optionallabs.com for questions, privacy requests or to report a security issue.
